The unique vistas and rock formations of the California Sierra
Nevada range inspired many of the landscape paintings initially.
In turn they become individual statements far removed from the
scene itself.
The overall composition is pretty much established at the beginning
of the painting process. The colors are used to give each work
a bold presence, reflecting strengths, mysteries and the various
tensions found in the natural world.
Expressive color is also significant in the figurative paintings,
but generally most of the content in those is created through
symbolic elements.
