Aquarium Piece is a response to the fascination I have with the aquatic world, and the endless patterns created by fish as they swim among each other and the plants. There are also countless variations of color that abound there. As the fish dart about in all directions, freeze, and continue on, the scene changes constantly. This work captures that feeling and the flash, movement and texture as they move about in their environment. It was a joyful work to create in pastel.

I’ve used it in the artist-in-schools program to jump-start discussions about the creative thinking process with students. Afterward they came up with many unique drawings, so looking at this work always brings fond memories.
